About the Journal

The African Journal of Pharmacology and Therapeutics (AJPT) is the official Journal of the Kenya Society for Basic and Applied Pharmacology (KeSoBAP). It is hosted and run by the University of Nairobi, School of Pharmacy.

AJPT is available as an open-access journal and, since 2012, has published articles on all topics related to basic and applied pharmacology.

AIMS AND SCOPE

AJPT publishes original research articles as well as expert reviews and opinions that give informed policy and practice perspectives in pharmacology and therapeutics. The journal accepts comments, questions, or criticisms about published articles, as well as brief reports and commentaries unrelated to previously published articles, and reserves the right to publish such correspondence.

To guard against possible publication bias, the editorial team at AJPT shall consider for publication any valid study within the scope of the journal, whether or not the results for the primary or any additional outcome are statistically significant.

PUBLICATION FREQUENCY

AJPT is published in annual volumes. Issues within each volume are released according to a regular schedule to ensure the timely dissemination of scholarly research. The journal adopts a continuous publication model whereby, after acceptance and final editing, articles are immediately assigned to an issue and published online.

EDITORIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Editorial instructions and guidelines provide the framework for governing workflow, ethics, and manuscript handling. Standard operating procedures dictate that editors maintain impartiality, rigorously enforce peer-review standards, treat all unpublished submissions confidentially, and promptly resolve any conflicts of interest.

Specific operational guidelines generally follow these core editorial responsibilities:

Manuscript Evaluation: Coordinate with peers and Associate Editors, source for and select qualified reviewers who are free from competing interests, and ensure that the review process is both constructive, unbiased, and objective.

Ethical Oversight: Handle ethical issues, such as plagiarism, Artificial Intelligence, or authorship disputes, in accordance with established publication ethics protocols.

Decision Communication: Compile reviewer reports and deliver timely, clear, and constructive decision letters to authors.

Journal Development: Monitor overall journal performance, suggest special issues for trending topics, and enforce general publishing policies.

The Editorial Board and the entire management of AJPT undertake not to disclose information about manuscripts (including their receipt, content, status in the reviewing process, criticism by reviewers, or ultimate fate) to anyone other than the authors and reviewers.
